Kashmir—known as the heaven on earth—is the beautiful place where Sri Sri Thakur Haranath spent about 20 long years of his life. In August 1893, he came to Srinagar after being appointed as the Assistant Superintendent in the ‘Dharmartha Office’ of the Jammu and Kashmir state. The respected Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir at that time, Pratap Singh, was a very pious man. He had established this ‘Dharmartha Office’ to supervise the religious and charitable works of the state, and he appointed his most trusted and favorite person, Rai Bahadur Dewan Janaki Prasad, as the head officer or Dewan of this department.
Dewan Janaki Prasad was himself a high-level spiritual seeker and a devoted disciple of the Bengali Tantric saint, Sri Kailashpati. At first sight, the Dewan was deeply attracted to Thakur Haranath’s unearthly sweet nature and extraordinary behavior, and he kept Thakur close to him with great care. But deep down, the Dewan still did not have a complete idea about Thakur’s true form or his high spiritual status. To remove that hidden pride of Dewan Janaki Prasad and to reveal the glory of Thakur’s true form, a great miraculous event took place in Kashmir, which still fills the hearts of devotees with devotion and wonder. Below is the detailed description of that thrilling miraculous story:
1. The Background and That Quiet Evening
One evening, a very important, confidential, and urgent state letter arrived at Dewan Janaki Prasad’s office to be sent to Maharaja Pratap Singh of Kashmir. The letter needed to reach the Maharaja very quickly. To discuss the letter, the Dewan immediately sent a messenger to Thakur Haranath’s cottage.
But the messenger returned and reported that Thakur was sitting in his room doing Puja (worship), and it was impossible to break his meditation to talk to him at that moment. The state letter was so urgent that Dewan Janaki Prasad could not wait any longer. He headed straight to Thakur Haranath’s residence himself.
2. The Closed Room and the Wonder of the Unearthly Light
Reaching Thakur’s cottage, Janaki Prasad saw that the door of the Puja room was completely closed. Standing outside, the Dewan called Thakur several times, but there was no response from inside. Out of anxiety and the urge of duty, when Janaki Prasad gently pushed the door, surprisingly, it opened wide on its own.
As soon as the door opened, seeing the scene inside the room, Dewan Janaki Prasad’s entire body went numb, and he lost his speech!
He saw that Thakur’s ordinary mud room was illuminated not by any earthly light, but by an intense, unearthly, cosmic, and heavenly glow. In the center of that glowing circle of light stood an extremely beautiful, divine Goddess! On the forehead of that miraculous Goddess, three eyes were shining brightly like stars, and her four hands held various divine weapons and offerings. That glowing Goddess was looking at Thakur Haranath with deep affection and a peaceful smile. And Thakur Haranath himself was sitting cross-legged with folded hands in front of the Goddess, deeply absorbed in meditation, completely unaware of the outside world.
3. The Disappearance of the Great Power and the Dewan’s Surrender
While Janaki Prasad stood frozen like a stone in fear and deep devotion watching this heavenly scene, right before his eyes, the four-armed Goddess slowly faded into the air and disappeared. Analyzing the deep spiritual meaning of this event later, saints have said that this Goddess was none other than “Yogamaya” or “Para-Prakriti”, the main driving force of Thakur’s endless divine plays (Leelas). The Goddess had appeared there that day to give an advance hint of Thakur Haranath’s upcoming miraculous transfiguration in Kashmir in 1896.
Thinking of his great fortune and seeing this miraculous form of Thakur, Janaki Prasad began to tremble. With utmost respect, he stepped out of the room and gently closed the door. He stood like a statue outside that closed door for a whole hour, until Thakur Haranath’s meditation broke and he returned to his normal state.
4. The Next Morning’s Regret and Endless Devotion
The next morning, Thakur Haranath came to the office and went to very humbly apologize to Dewan Janaki Prasad for the interruption caused to his urgent work the previous evening due to his Puja. But before Thakur could finish his words, the Dewan burst into tears and fell flat at his holy feet.
Holding Thakur’s hands, he said in a very emotional voice:
“O Merciful One, please do not apologize to me! I could not recognize your true form all this time. I did not know what high peak of the spiritual world you reside on. I am extremely blessed to have had the opportunity to see that miraculous scene in your room last night. Please pray for me so that I too may receive the grace of the primal Goddess (Adyashakti) whom you worship.”
After that, with great respect, Dewan Janaki Prasad handed the keys to his table drawer to Thakur, bowed his head in reverence, and took his leave. From that day on, the Dewan’s devotion to Thakur Haranath reached a unique height, and he began to see Thakur not as an ordinary employee, but as a direct representative of God.
5. The Miraculous Search in the Dead of Night at Hari Parvat
A few days after this incident, some jealous employees of the department spread a false rumor to the Maharaja and the Dewan that Thakur Haranath miraculously went somewhere every night and spent the whole night in the forest. To verify the truth of this baseless rumor, Dewan Janaki Prasad decided to secretly follow Thakur one night.
In the dead of night, when Thakur started walking alone across Srinagar city towards the forest, Janaki Prasad also started walking behind him out of miraculous curiosity. After walking a long way, Thakur climbed a holy peak of a mountain called “Hari Parvat”. (According to mythology, this Hari Parvat is the holy place where Draupadi left her physical body during the great departure of the Pandavas). Reaching there, Thakur sat on a huge rock and became deeply absorbed in meditation.
Seeing Thakur meditating alone in the dark night among the wild animals of the forest, all the doubts in Janaki Prasad’s mind vanished forever. He realized that Thakur did not need any human to guard him; the universal nature itself was engaged in his service.
The next morning, the Dewan went to Maharaja Pratap Singh and explained the high spiritual state of Thakur. He called all the employees of the department and issued a strict and historic order:
“From today, no employee can enter Thakur Haranath’s room or interrupt his official work without permission under any circumstances. If there is any need for Thakur’s work or any news of the department, Dewan Janaki Prasad himself will go directly and inform Thakur.”
These two incidents prove that even the Tantric seeker and the Dewan of Kashmir, Janaki Prasad, was blessed by surrendering all his pride at the feet of Thakur Haranath’s divine glory and unearthly love.

ত্রিনয়নী দেবীর অলৌকিক প্রকাশ ও দেওয়ান জানকী প্রসাদের দম্ভনাশ: কাশ্মীরে ঠাকুর হরনাথের এক অপার্থিব লীলাকাহিনী
কাশ্মীর—যাকে পৃথিবীর স্বর্গ বলা হয়, সেই নৈসর্গিক রূপের লীলাভূমিতেই শ্রী শ্রী ঠাকুর হরনাথ তাঁর জীবনের দীর্ঘ প্রায় ২০ বছর অতিবাহিত করেছিলেন। ১৮৯৩ খ্রিষ্টাব্দের আগস্ট মাসে তিনি জম্মু ও কাশ্মীর রাজ্যের ‘ধর্মার্থ দপ্তরে’ (Dharmartha Office) সহকারী সুপারিন্টেন্ডেন্ট পদে নিযুক্ত হয়ে শ্রীনগরে আসেন। জম্মু ও কাশ্মীরের তৎকালীন পূজনীয় মহারাজা প্রতাপ সিং ছিলেন অত্যন্ত ধর্মপ্রাণ ব্যক্তি। তিনি রাজ্যের ধর্মীয় ও দাতব্য কাজের তদারকির জন্য এই ‘ধর্মার্থ দপ্তর’ প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছিলেন এবং তাঁর অত্যন্ত বিশ্বস্ত ও প্রিয়পাত্র রায় বাহাদুর দেওয়ান জানকী প্রসাদকে এই দপ্তরের প্রধান কর্মকর্তা বা দেওয়ান হিসেবে নিযুক্ত করেছিলেন।
দেওয়ান জানকী প্রসাদ নিজেও ছিলেন একজন উচ্চমানের সাধক এবং বাঙালি তান্ত্রিক মহাপুরুষ শ্রী কৈলাশপতির পরম একনিষ্ঠ শিষ্য। প্রথম দর্শনেই দেওয়ানজি ঠাকুর হরনাথের অপার্থিব মিষ্টি স্বভাব ও অনন্যসাধারণ ব্যবহারের প্রতি গভীরভাবে আকৃষ্ট হন এবং পরম যত্নে ঠাকুরকে নিজের কাছে এনে রাখেন। কিন্তু দেওয়ানজির অন্তরে তখনও ঠাকুরের প্রকৃত রূপ বা তাঁর সুউচ্চ আধ্যাত্মিক অধিকার সম্পর্কে পূর্ণ ধারণা ছিল না। দেওয়ান জানকী প্রসাদের সেই সুপ্ত অহংকার দূর করতে এবং ঠাকুরের আসল রূপের মহিমা প্রকাশ করতে কাশ্মীরের বুকে এক পরম অলৌকিক ঘটনা সংঘটিত হয়েছিল, যা আজও ভক্তহৃদয়কে ভক্তি ও বিস্ময়ে আপ্লুত করে। নিচে সেই রোমাঞ্চকর অলৌকিক কাহিনীর পুঙ্খানুপুঙ্খ বিবরণ দেওয়া হলো:
১. ঘটনার প্রেক্ষাপট ও সেই নিস্তব্ধ সন্ধ্যা
একদিন সন্ধ্যায় কাশ্মীরের মহারাজা প্রতাপ সিং-এর নিকট পাঠানোর জন্য একটি অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, গোপনীয় ও জরুরি রাষ্ট্রীয় চিঠি দেওয়ান জানকী প্রসাদের দপ্তরে এসে পৌঁছায়। চিঠিটি মহারাজার কাছে অত্যন্ত দ্রুত পৌঁছানো প্রয়োজন ছিল। দেওয়ানজি চিঠিটি নিয়ে আলোচনার জন্য তৎক্ষণাৎ তাঁর এক দূতকে ঠাকুর হরনাথের কুটিরে প্রেরণ করেন।
কিন্তু দূত ফিরে এসে সংবাদ দেয় যে, ঠাকুর তাঁর কক্ষে পূজায় বসেছেন এবং এই মুহূর্তে তাঁর ধ্যান ভঙ্গ করে কথা বলা কোনোভাবেই সম্ভব নয়। রাষ্ট্রীয় চিঠির গুরুত্ব এতটাই জরুরি ছিল যে দেওয়ান জানকী প্রসাদ আর অপেক্ষা করতে পারলেন না। তিনি নিজেই সোজা ঠাকুর হরনাথের আবাসের দিকে রওনা হলেন।
২. অবরুদ্ধ কক্ষ ও অপার্থিব জ্যোতির বিস্ময়
ঠাকুরের কুটিরে পৌঁছে জানকী প্রসাদ দেখেন যে পূজার ঘরের দরজাটি সম্পূর্ণ বন্ধ রয়েছে। দেওয়ানজি বাইরে দাঁড়িয়ে বেশ কয়েকবার ঠাকুরকে ডাকলেন, কিন্তু ভেতর থেকে কোনো সাড়াশব্দ পাওয়া গেল না। ব্যাকুলতা ও কর্তব্যের তাগিদে জানকী প্রসাদ যখন দরজায় আলতো করে একটি ধাক্কা দিলেন, আশ্চর্যজনকভাবে দরজাটি আপনা থেকেই হাট হয়ে খুলে গেল।
আর দরজাটি খোলার সাথে সাথেই ঘরের ভেতরের দৃশ্য দেখে দেওয়ান জানকী প্রসাদের সারা শরীর অবশ হয়ে গেল, তাঁর বাক্যস্ফূর্তি বন্ধ হয়ে গেল!
তিনি দেখলেন, ঠাকুরের সেই সাধারণ মাটির ঘরটি কোনো পার্থিব আলোয় নয়, বরং এক তীব্র অপার্থিব মহাজাগতিক স্বর্গীয় জ্যোতিতে উদ্ভাসিত হয়ে উঠেছে। সেই প্রদীপ্ত আলোকবলয়ের কেন্দ্রস্থলে দাঁড়িয়ে আছেন এক পরমাসুন্দরী দিব্য দেবীমূর্তি! সেই অলৌকিক দেবীর কপালে তারার মতো উজ্জ্বলভাবে জ্বলজ্বল করছে তিনটি চোখ (ত্রিনয়নী) এবং তাঁর চতুর্হস্তে (চারটি হাত) শোভা পাচ্ছে বিভিন্ন ঐশ্বরিক অস্ত্র ও উপচার। সেই জ্যোতির্ময়ী দেবীমূর্তি পরম স্নেহে ও শান্ত হাস্যে ঠাকুর হরনাথের দিকে তাকিয়ে আছেন। আর স্বয়ং ঠাকুর হরনাথ সেই দেবীর সম্মুখে হাত জোড় করে, পদ্মাসনে বসে গভীর সমাধিতে মগ্ন হয়ে আছেন, তাঁর বাহ্যিক কোনো জ্ঞান নেই।
৩. মহাশক্তির অন্তর্ধান ও দেওয়ানজির আত্মসমর্পণ
জানকী প্রসাদ যখন ভয়ে ও পরম ভক্তিতে পাথরের মতো দাঁড়িয়ে এই স্বর্গীয় দৃশ্য দেখছিলেন, তখনই তাঁর চোখের সামনে সেই চতুর্ভুজা দেবীমূর্তিটি ধীরে ধীরে বাতাসে মিলিয়ে অদৃশ্য হয়ে যায়। এই ঘটনার গভীর তত্ত্ব বিশ্লেষণ করে পরবর্তীকালে সাধকেরা বলেছেন যে, এই দেবী আর কেউ নন—তিনি ছিলেন স্বয়ং ঠাকুরের অনন্ত লীলার মূল চালিকাশক্তি “যোগমায়া” বা “পরাপ্রকৃতি”। ঠাকুর হরনাথের আসন্ন ১৮৯৬ সালের কাশ্মীরের অলৌকিক রূপান্তরের (Transfiguration) আগাম ইঙ্গিত দিতেই সেদিন স্বয়ং দেবী সেখানে উপস্থিত হয়েছিলেন।
নিজের এই পরম সৌভাগ্যের কথা চিন্তা করে এবং ঠাকুরের এই অলৌকিক রূপ দেখে জানকী প্রসাদ থরথর করে কাঁপতে লাগলেন। তিনি পরম সম্ভ্রমে ঘর থেকে বেরিয়ে এসে দরজাটি আলতো করে বন্ধ করে দিলেন। দীর্ঘ এক ঘণ্টা তিনি সেই বন্ধ দরজার বাইরে মূর্তির মতো দাঁড়িয়ে রইলেন, যতক্ষণ না ঠাকুর হরনাথের সমাধি ভঙ্গ হয় এবং তিনি স্বাভাবিক অবস্থায় ফিরে আসেন।
৪. পরদিন সকালের অনুশোচনা ও অনন্ত ভক্তি
পরদিন সকালে ঠাকুর হরনাথ কার্যালয়ে এসে, পূর্বদিন সন্ধ্যায় নিজের পূজার কারণে দেওয়ান জানকী প্রসাদের জরুরি কার্যে যে ব্যাঘাত ঘটেছিল, তার জন্য অত্যন্ত বিনীতভাবে দুঃখ প্রকাশ করতে গেলেন। কিন্তু ঠাকুর নিজের কথা শেষ করার পূর্বেই দেওয়ানজি অশ্রুসিক্ত নয়নে তাঁর শ্রীচরণে সাষ্টাঙ্গে লুটিয়ে পড়লেন।
তিনি ঠাকুরের হাত দুটি ধরে অত্যন্ত আবেগাপ্লুত কণ্ঠে বলেন:
“দয়াময়, আপনি আমার কাছে ক্ষমা চাইবেন না! আমি এতদিন আপনার আসল রূপ চিনতে পারিনি। আমি জানতাম না যে আপনি আধ্যাত্মিক জগতের কোন সুউচ্চ শিখরে অবস্থান করছেন। আমি পরম ধন্য যে কাল রাতে আপনার ঘরের সেই অলৌকিক দৃশ্য দেখার সুযোগ পেয়েছি। দয়া করে আপনি যে আদ্যাশক্তি দেবীর আরাধনা করেন, তাঁর কৃপা যেন আমিও লাভ করতে পারি, আমার জন্য সেই প্রার্থনা করুন।”
দেওয়ান জানকী প্রসাদ এরপর পরম শ্রদ্ধায় তাঁর টেবিলের ড্রয়ারের চাবিটি ঠাকুরের হাতে তুলে দেন এবং অবনত মস্তকে প্রণাম জানিয়ে সেখান থেকে বিদায় নেন। সেই দিন থেকেই ঠাকুর হরনাথের প্রতি দেওয়ানজির ভক্তি এক অনন্য উচ্চতায় পৌঁছায় এবং তিনি ঠাকুরকে সাধারণ কর্মচারীর ঊর্ধ্বে সাক্ষাৎ ঈশ্বরের প্রতিনিধি হিসেবে জ্ঞান করতে শুরু করেন।
৫. হরি পর্বতের নিশুতি রাতের অলৌকিক অনুসন্ধান
এই ঘটনার কিছুদিন পর, দপ্তরের কিছু ঈর্ষান্বিত কর্মচারী মহারাজা ও দেওয়ানজির কাছে মিথ্যা রটিয়ে দেয় যে, ঠাকুর হরনাথ প্রতি রাতে অলৌকিকভাবে কোথায় যেন চলে যান এবং সারারাত বনের মধ্যে কাটান। এই ভিত্তিহীন গুজবের সত্যতা যাচাই করার জন্য দেওয়ান জানকী প্রসাদ একদিন রাতে গোপনে ঠাকুরের পিছু নেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন।
নিশুতি রাতে ঠাকুর যখন একা একা শ্রীনগর শহর পার হয়ে বনের দিকে হেঁটে যেতে শুরু করলেন, জানকী প্রসাদও অলৌকিক কৌতূহলে তাঁর পেছনে পেছনে হাঁটতে লাগলেন। ঠাকুর দীর্ঘ পথ হেঁটে পাহাড়ের এক পবিত্র চূড়া “হরি পর্বত”-এ আরোহণ করলেন। (পুরাণ মতে, এই হরি পর্বত হলো সেই পবিত্র স্থান যেখানে পাণ্ডবদের মহাপ্রস্থানের সময় দ্রৌপদী তাঁর পঞ্চভৌতিক দেহ ত্যাগ করেছিলেন)। সেখানে পৌঁছে ঠাকুর একটি বিশাল পাথরের ওপর বসে গভীর ধ্যানে মগ্ন হলেন।
অন্ধকার রাতে বনের হিংস্র পশুদের মাঝে ঠাকুরকে একা ধ্যানমগ্ন দেখে জানকী প্রসাদের মনের সমস্ত সংশয় চিরতরে কেটে গেল। তিনি বুঝতে পারলেন, ঠাকুরকে পাহারা দেওয়ার জন্য কোনো মানুষের প্রয়োজন নেই, স্বয়ং বিশ্বপ্রকৃতিই তাঁর সেবায় নিয়োজিত।
পরদিন সকালে দেওয়ানজি মহারাজা প্রতাপ সিং-এর কাছে গিয়ে ঠাকুরের এই আধ্যাত্মিক উচ্চতার কথা ব্যক্ত করেন। তিনি দপ্তরের সমস্ত কর্মচারীদের ডেকে এক কড়া এবং ঐতিহাসিক নির্দেশ জারি করেন:
“আজ থেকে ঠাকুর হরনাথের দাপ্তরিক কাজে বা তাঁর ঘরে কোনো কর্মচারী কোনো অবস্থাতেই বিনা অনুমতিতে প্রবেশ করতে পারবে না। ঠাকুরের কোনো কাজের প্রয়োজন হলে বা দপ্তরের কোনো খবর থাকলে তা সরাসরি দেওয়ান জানকী প্রসাদ নিজে গিয়ে ঠাকুরকে জানাবেন।”
এই দুটি ঘটনা প্রমাণ করে যে, স্বয়ং তান্ত্রিক সাধক ও কাশ্মীরের দেওয়ান জানকী প্রসাদও ঠাকুর হরনাথের ঐশ্বরিক বিভূতি ও অপার্থিব প্রেমের চরণে নিজের সমস্ত অহংকার সমর্পণ করে ধন্য হয়েছিলেন।
“জয় হরনাথ জয় কুসুমকুমারী জয়”
