Q- How can the mind be made still?
Ans: – Nothing of this world is permanent. Some day or other one must be deceived if one goes to fix one’s mind on things of this place. All other things except the lotus feet of Krishna are transient. Mind becomes steady for ever if it can be steadied at those lotus feet of Krishna. One means of steadying the mind is to take Name; another means is to place love on something. That love should be continuous deep love devoid of all considerations (lit) devoid of the sense of quarters and subquarters of the space like Bilvamangala’s love for Chintamani; it will not do if it is adulterated. If such love awakens the heart, it will gradually turn its face towards Krishna and become permanent. Only a little thought will make it clear that in this world there is no other thing as love. If love is put aside it is impossible to think of the existence of this place. Everything of this place comes from love (or making love their shelter), and learning and teaching love for so much time, leaving love behind, again dissolves in the kingdom of love. Here there is not, nor can be any one who does not love, but the more the dissipated love becomes concentrated, the better it is.
- The main things for attaining mental balance are:
(i) to think always that one has to die, (ii) to be satisfied with whatever gain that comes of itself, (iii) to have an unshakable faith that everything that is to happen in this world is fore-ordained, (iv) to avoid company, (v) to sing the Lord’s praises loudly alone and at a lonely spot when the mind is very much disturbed, and (vi) to be convinced in body, mind and soul that there is one, who is above all, sees all and directs all, and to put trust in Him. Contemplate Krishna’s name every moment; your mind will become steady.
প্রশ্ন- কি করিলে মন স্থির করা যায়?
উত্তর- এ পৃথিবীর কিছুই চিরস্থায়ী নয়। এখানের জিনিষে মন স্থির করিতে যাইলে একদিন না একদিন প্রতারিত হইতেই হইবে। একমাত্র কৃষ্ণপাদপদ্ম ছাড়া আর সকল জিনিষই অস্থির। সেই কৃষ্ণপাদপদ্মে মন স্থির করিতে পারিলে মন চিরস্থির হয়। সেরূপ মনস্থির করিবার এক উপায় নাম করা; আর এক উপায় কোন কিছুতে ভালবাসা স্থাপন করা। সে ভালবাসা বিল্বমঙ্গলের চিন্তামণিকে ভালবাসার মত দিক্বিদিক জ্ঞানশূন্য একটানা গভীর ভালবাসা হওয়া চাই; তাতে ভেজাল থাকিলে চলিবে না। হৃদয়ে এরূপ ভালবাসা জাগিলে ক্রমে তাহা কৃষ্ণোন্মুখী হইয়া চিরস্থায়ী হইয়া যাইবে। একটু চিন্তা করিলেই বুঝা যায় এ পৃথিবীতে ভালবাসা ছাড়া আর দ্বিতীয় বস্তু নাই। ভালবাসাকে সরাইয়া দিলে এখানের অস্তিত্ব চিন্তা করা অসম্ভব। এখানের প্রতি জিনিষই ভালবাসা আশ্রয় করিয়া আসিয়াছে ও তাবৎকাল ভালবাসা শিখিয়া ও শিখাইয়া, ভালবাসা রাখিয়া, আবার ভালবাসার রাজ্যে মিশাইতেছে। এখানে ভাল না বাসিয়া কেহ নাই – থাকিতেও পারে না; তবে বিক্ষিপ্ত ভালবাসা যতই কেন্দ্রীভূত হয় ততই ভাল।
- মন স্থিরকরিবার প্রধান উপায় –
( ১ ) মরিতে হইবে ইহা অহরহঃ চিন্তা করা, ( ২ ) যথা লাভে সন্তুষ্ট থাকা , ( ৩ ) এ পৃথিবীতে যাহা হ’বার তাহা পূৰ্ব হইতেই স্থিরীকৃত এইটি ধ্রুব বিশ্বাস করা, ( ৪ ) সঙ্গ ত্যাগ করা ,( ৫ ) মন নিতান্ত চঞ্চল হইলে , কোনো নির্জন স্থানে একা যাইয়া উচ্চ কীৰ্ত্তন করা , আর ( ৬ ) সকলের উপর এক জন আছেন , যিনি সকল দেখিতেছেন ও সর্বনিয়ন্তা , এটিতে কায়মন প্রাণে বিশ্বাস ও আস্থা করা। কৃষ্ণ নামটী অহরহঃ চিন্তা করুন , মন স্থির হইয়া যাইবে ।
