Part 3; Letter No. 10

Letter No. 10

To,Wife of Rajani Kanta Ghosh:

Those who chant Krishna’s name will enjoy all sorts of happiness. They will have no trouble or fear of any kind. Hence I repeat that you should never remain forgetful of the sweet name of Krishna. The moment you are free from work, sit down with your string of beads and recite the holy Name, unmindful whether the mind is absorbed or not. Whether you take it merely for fun or without faith, the Name will have beneficial effect. Try to get by heart the entire books of hymns known as Sadhak Kanthahar. Whether you are sitting or moving about, or attending to your routine work, keep mentally repeating a stanza or a part thereof. As you continue to do this, tears, of their own accord, will flow out of your eyes. Watered by such tears, the seed of love sprouts up and in due course, becoming a creeper rises higher and higher until it touches the lotus feet of Krishna. Bhakti is a creeper. It needs the support of faith. In course of time it becomes stronger to rise higher and higher without any support and reaches the feet of Krishna. Your mind will no longer be diverted towards earthly concerns; the joys and sorrows of this world will not bind you.

Several times you have set up dollhouses and several times you have broken them up. It is time to proceed towards your true husband. Krishna is the true husband and all others are merely Prakriti. Do not entertain the desire to set up another doll’s house. Sons, daughters, money and property you had several times already. Leaving them all, you came to the world again and do not think of them even once. Though we have played this sort of game several times, we are not satiated with it. This delusion cannot be snapped except by resorting to Krishna’s name. To get rid of this intoxication (worldly pleasure), remain always engaged in chanting Krishna’s name.

Make it a point to wear a string of Tulasi beads round your neck. By that means your body will be free of disease and the mind will remain pure and holy.During the Puja holidays it is good for you to visit Brindavan, Puri and Nawadwip. The object of pilgrimage is nothing more than to gain peace.
