“মাগো, ধনে লোক বড়লোক হয় না, যার হৃদয় বড় সে নিতান্ত কাঙ্গাল হ’লেও প্রকৃতপক্ষে সেই বড়লোক; তাই বলি মা, অর্থ দিয়া সকল সময় সাহায্য করিতে না পারিলে দুঃখিত হইবেন না, তবে দুঃখী দেখে হৃদয়টা নরম হয়, দুঃখীর দুঃখ লাঘব করিবার ইচ্ছা স্বভাবতই উদয় হয়, পরের কষ্ট যেন নিজের কষ্ট বলে মনে হয়; এই রকম হৃদয় নরম হ’য়ে হ’য়ে একেবারে প্রেমে গলে যাবে… তাই বলি মা, ভালবাসিতে পয়সা খরচ হয় না, সেটি কেবল মনকে একটু প্রশস্ত করা মাত্র…”
