(1) NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THE BODY :
The Lord writes, “The news regarding your ill health has caused me so much pain that He alone who lives in the heart of hearts can understand it. However there is no need for apprehension. Let Krishna play out his game. Do not be anxious in the least. Be at ease. Seeds sown in the ground germinate and develop into trees which, bearing fruits and flowers, make themselves happy as well as those who look at them while others wither after sprouting. Similarly our bodies which are the products of the seeds of our past deeds yield fruits in the shape of pleasure and pain. Hence reasonable men like you ought not to mourn your lot. Many such will come and go. Spend your time quietly without noticing them. So long as the game of life is not played out, no one is free to go elsewhere, and cannot even go if he tries to. Hunger and thirst are natural to the body; so are old age and infirmities. Without these the body cannot exist. Fettered to daily changes incidental to existence, the body itself becomes subject to various changes. This law is absolute and unchangeable. Hence it is not right to manifest pain or grief on this account. Do not be uneasy in any way.”
REVIEW : “Our bodies which are the products of the seeds of our past deeds yield fruits in the shape of pleasure and pain,” so writes the Lord.
Thus pleasure and pain in life are the products of past deeds. What we have to undergo during the sojourn is called Prarabda.
In letter IV/92, the Lord writes, “Each and every action in one’s life has been foreordained before one’s birth and so it is not right to worry about them. What will happen will surely happen and therefore, it is best to pass one’s time in contemplation of Krishna and in constant repetition of His name with absolute unconcern.”
In His letter IV/95, the Lord writes, “Our Karmas are fixed in this world. The figures had been cast as soon as we came over here and so why waste any thought over it? To think about it is only a prelude to unnecessary suffering. So I tell you, father, waste no thoughts over it and pass your days in joy.”
The Lord says, “Spend your time quietly without noticing them (pleasure and pain).”
(2) “So long as the game of life is not played out, no one is free to go elsewhere, and cannot even go if he tries to . . . the body itself becomes subject to various changes. This law is absolute and unchangeable,” so writes the Lord.
In this connection I would like to recall an incident. In January 1921, Haranath took Krishnadas to Calcutta for treatment. They stayed in the house of Sarat Chandra. Dr.Bijoy Sinha treated Krishnadas and cured him. One day the famous physician Suresh Chandra Datta came and after examining Krishnadas, sat near Haranath to hear His nectarine discourse. Haranath addressed Him, “Father, you have dissected the bodies, analyzed every part and have studied the human mechanism but can you say where the Vital element lies?” The doctor replied, “No, father.” Then pointing to the electric lamp in the room, Haranath said, “That electric lamp lights up when the switch is pressed, and goes out when the switch is put off. Because of this you may think that the power to put it on or off lies in your hand. But, the power by which the light burns lies somewhere. If that power is cut off, the light does not burn even if you operate the switch hundred times. Similarly God is the Vital element of all that exists. So long His power flows, the life persists. When His power is withdrawn, the life becomes extinct.” (Haranatha Smriti – 3)
In His letter IV/61, the Lord writes, “I am much concerned to learn that plague is on the increase. But father, only one whose days are numbered would pass away; plague and the like are merely incidental. One has to be anxious every moment at a time like this. Only the anxiety is removed by moving away to some other place.”
