Part 4; Letter No. 7

Letter No. 7

To, Kailash Chandra Datta:

Whether it seems good to you or not, as you go on taking Name, you will realize how much sweetness there is in it. The sweetness of Name is incomparable; it cannot be conveyed by words. The sweet Name of Krishna is everybody’s own treasure. However far Krishna may be from us, His Name is with us. Make it your very own and Krishna will not be able to hide Himself. Before He comes, the place will become beautiful in many ways and will become very pleasant. Then you will be pleased and He, with whom you would unite, will also be pleased.

The Bay of Bengal is always full of waves and if you think you will bathe after the waves subside, you cannot have a bath. So let there be waves, at the same time finish your bathing. Do not put off taking the Name for tomorrow. You need not consider whether the place is proper or not, whether it is holy or not. Name is constantly pure, and the impurest, on taking Name, becomes completely pure.

One of my sons (B.C.Mitra), his wife and children had a sudden and severe attack of Beriberi. Probably the Lord made me suffer that suffering of theirs and gave them peace. May the Lord mete out such kind justice always. My only prayer is that may He lay all the burden on my head and let you repeat the Name of Hari with joy. You live in peace and take Hari’s Name, I shall then be happy even in hell.

Remember me to my affectionate mother and submit to her that to have no children is a lesser unhappiness, while to have children is a constant source of unhappiness. Let her consider Krishna as her own son. Such a son never dies, never contracts any disease and never causes any anxiety to the parents.
