Part 3; Letter No. 9

Letter No. 9

To, Wife of Rajani Kanta Ghosh:

It is not wealth that makes people great. Those whose hearts are big, though they may be very poor in the eye’s of the world, are truly great. Do not feel worried if you are not always able to offer monetary help to the poor. As your heart becomes tender at the sight of other’s distress, you would gradually reach a stage when suddenly it melts and merges in Love. As your love for creatures increases stage by stage, you will begin to acquire love for Krishna. To teach the deluded souls of the world, how to develop universal love, the Lord has ordained that a man’s love beginning with his own kith and kin should extend to strangers, thus transcending the limits of kinship and getting converted into universal love. Then with a sense of satisfaction, he is able to chant Krishna’s Name and enjoy infinite bliss. Love is not spending of money. It is simply making the heart a bit broader.

Always make it a point to speak sweet words and evince great sympathy in the matter of lightening pains and sorrows. When giving a mango to your child, give a bit of it to the poor child that happens to be there. Give one of the five coats of your child to a stranger’s child that may be suffering due to exposure to the cold. Love gets started in this way and later on the heart gets tender of its own accord.

Never forget Name. Even a kingly life in forgetfulness of Krishna should be considered as no better than hell. When you wear ornaments, make it a point to include a string of Tulasi beads around your neck; thereby the mind and body will remain pure.
