Letter No. 7
To, Sudhi Ranjan Seth:
Who knew that our mother would leave us thus! The world without mothers is no world at all. There is nothing whatever in the world that can supply the want you are feeling today. All depends upon the goodwill of the All-will. Even to the Vedas, His sports are unkown, not to speak of ordinary human knowledge. However, if you can carry out even one of her commandments, you may find great relief. Do not think that by disappearing from view, mother has left us altogether. She is ever present with us, in all conditions. She maintains a constant vigil over us in all places. This is just the time to serve her and show her our reverence. Leaving the world of matter she has now made our heart her abode; now try to keep her dwelling always pure and well adorned with fine qualities. Impurity, however small, if left in the heart, will cause her pain; keep it pure and take special care that sitting in the heart, she can hear the Name which she uttered in her last moments. Do not forget Name. Do not fall into error by thinking that you have lost your mother; in order to be always with you she has assumed an etherial form.Be careful not to cause her the least pain, and for your guidance keep your mind fixed on her blessed feet.
It is true the Police service may require reformation. Rules and regulations can hardly be expected to effect much in this direction. However if it is manned by good and capable men of your stamp, much good may result. Keep in mind your resolution to do good to others. Keep at a distance all thoughts of oppression. Never hesitate to tell the truth but when it is likely to involve any one into great trouble, you may keep quiet. Make the humane object of the Police Administration your life’s companion, and do not have anything to do with the abuses of rules. Think of the merciful Krishna and His sweet Name when doing anything. Remember that Name is the best form of Mantra.
