Part 1; Letter No. 3

Letter No. 3

To,  Wife of Nagen Babu:

When a person finds a precious gem in an unclean spot, will he hesitate to pick it up because he himself is unclean? Then why is this question of purity or impurity when you touch your rosary for taking Krishna’s name? Let there be no doubt of any sort in this regard. If sinners, conscious of their sins, refrain from bathing in the holy waters of the Ganges, how will they get rid of their sins? So much honour and reverence are due to the Ganges simply because there are sinners. Make the sweet name of Krishna your necklace. There is nothing higher than Krishna’s name. A cobbler becomes sacred if he adores Krishna. The object of life is to adore Krishna, forgetting this man allows himself fettered by his actions.

When a person forgets that he is an all-time servant of Krishna, Maya tightens her chord around his neck. Forgetting Krishna, man becomes a slave of illusion forever. The means by which Krishna can be reached is to take His name and remain immersed in it. A person remaining in water is not affected by the scorching rays of the sun. Similarly Maya cannot do anything to those who remain immersed in Krishna’s name and love. Name taken constantly, culminates in love for Krishna, which in time leads to Krishna Himself.
